At Raypak we come into contact with many different small businesses, large companies and everyday families who rely on our products for their work or home environmental needs. From heating pools at a large apartment complex to providing heaters to churches in the northeast during the dead of winter, we take pride in learning about where our products end up, and how they help people along the way.
We’re going to dig into a specific case study with BioTherm and Olson’s Greenhouse of Colorado, who grow flowers and bedding plants to wholesalers in their 13-acre operation.
Olson’s was in need of a few replacements in their greenhouse and ended up replacing their existing steam system running at 45% efficiency to Raypak’s on-demand low-mass boilers which run up to 99% efficiency. Kenny Powell, General Manager at the greenhouse said, “we needed to get rid of our steam boilers and into a new era. Something that modulates and gives us the opportunity to pick up efficiencies that steam really can’t do. This switch has saved us money on gas and money on downtime. It’s a much more reliable, up-to-date system”.
Their system has one condensing boiler and four non condensing boilers. Having multiple boilers on one system allows for minimizing downtime and impact on the plants while helping the team have peace of mind if any of the boilers go out at any time.
One of the benefits of moving from steam to low-mass boilers is that the service-ability is easy with the smaller boilers and you aren’t taking down one larger unit to work on it, wasting valuable time. Instead, you can handle one Raypak boiler at an isolated time to maintain overall efficiency.
Thank you, BioTherm and Olson’s Greenhouse of Colorado for sharing your story with us. Watch the full interview below.
